Default Recommended Reading...

I just finished reading Maximum Boost and I am looking for more knowledge. I would like to read more books about designing automotive turbocharger systems and the required components. The more technical the better. On many occasions I felt that Corky Bell pulled his equations and theory out of thin air. I'd be interested in a book that explored, in detail, the mathematical and scientific proofs that support the statements made by Corky Bell.

I'm also very interested in heat exchanger theory and tech as well.

That this point your probably thinking, Why the hell does this guy want to read about this boring stuff?

I am a mechanical engineering major, all of this reading and research will culminate in my senior design thesis. The objective of the project is to extensively test the stock 1.8T vs. my mod'ed 1.8T. I will be performing tests and calculations similar to those outlined in ch.14 & ch.17 of Maximum Boost. I hope to obtain such data as, compressor efficiency, intercooler efficiency and various pressure ratios. If any of you have input on my project it would be greatly appreciated.

Read the entire Carroll Smith series of books, and the books HE recommends in those books.

Default cool thanks...

Could you recommend any additional parameters that you would be interested in me testing?

Default A must read: TURBOCHARGERS by Hugh MacInnes. --->

Hugh MacInnes is a Mechanical Engineer, member of SAE, AME and AMSE. He has all the necessary credentials, including a lifetime of hands-on experience. This book is full of real engineering info, no techno-babble. It was very helpful to me in designing the turbo system of my "Monster" (click on my sig).

I share your thoughts about Corky Bells book, even though it seems to be very popular on AudiWorld.<ul><li><a href="http://www.penguinputnam.com/Book/BookFrame/0,1007,,00.html?id=0895861356">Where to find it ...</a></li></ul>

Default Vaguely. I spent my Porsche days in California, where everything was available locally. --->

Now I live in Virginia. But it must be fun to work in a racers toy store.
