regarding the 11.5 quarter mile video: Doesn't shifting that fast ruin synchros?
I'm hitting the drag strip this Sunday, or next week. I would love to shift fast as bigbluemachine but I don't have $3k sitting around for a new tranny this month. Does everyone shift that fast in the 1/4 mile?

taking your car to the drag strip ruins everything:) plus if yopu are going to see
how fast it is then you should probably shift as fast as possible....and yes speed shifting or shifting very quickly is bad for the synchros.

Our trannys are fully serviceable.
I tore up the 2nd gear slider 2 weeks ago at the strip. My first time there too. I knew it was coming because I've ground the crap out of 2nd many times and I have an MY2000 car. The 2nd gear slider costs ~$300.00. It's going to be a DIY.
I wouldn't tell any AWer to do this, but you are a proficient mechanic (you did your own stg III right?), but take it to the strip. It is a freakin' BLAST! Worth every penny. And you don't have to buy a new trans every time something goes wrong with yours.

Bentley shows internals. When I get it apart I will beg AW EKTA folks for part #s.
There are also a lot of good posts in the archives. I recently posted about tearing up my tranny and got a lot of great links, but can't find my post because the search function is incomprehensible.

What do I know... that's what the dealer told me...
and the tech said to blshi (I think that's his handle?)when he saw my car at the dealer, "This guy doesn't know how to drive."
They insisted that I was putting the car in 1st before I stopped rolling backwards-- which wasn't even close to being true-- but I was speed shifting like the fool I am at the dragstrip. After and especially gut-wrenching 2nd gear grind, I had no 1st, 2nd or reverse. I've been much nicer to the tranny since having it fixed, however...
