Repost of Mid-Ohio race...with a few pics

I flew into Columbus Thursday evening to work as support gopher for Don and his crew chief Aaron. They were already set up....but it sure was an eye opener how much work there is to do...even when things go about as well as you could ever hope.
We got 2nd in qualifying in GSII....and then the NSX in front turned out to be ~12 pounds underweight...putting us on the pole for the class.
Alex Lince drove first (since he qualified) and made it almost/about 1 and 1/2 hours before he pitted. I believe he was still in first at that point (I was fairly busy)...but when done went back out he was about 1:30 off the first place car. The pit stop went well. I got to be dressed with helmet and suit and gloves and did the fueling while Aaron and Tom changed a front tire each (air guns running off a nitrogen bottle) while Don and Alex traded places. Not as fast as CART....but pretty fast.
Unfortunately, the achilles heel of the S4 surfaced...we had boost problems with the boost dropping to .5 bar and then occasionally bouncing back to 1 bar. So, the car was about 2 seconds a lap off the pace. Despite that, Don passed a 996 for 5th and another car couldn't make it back after suffering some front wheel damage giving us 4th.
It was a blast to participate....to be able to have the magic pass that let me into the pits at any time....and to be a part of the team for the weekend. Would have been even better if I hadn't walked into a shelf and smashed my nose and lip and shin just before the race.....but heck...you even get free medical care for minor scrapes at the infield care center. Besides, my wife thinks it looks kinda sexy for me to have those hollywood style lips (e.g. like Angelina Joline.)
