Camera attachment even on a ball joint to angle to one side or the other:

Imagaine it on the windshield like this - plenty of room around the camera connector to fit a camera with a large base:

Default Cool ... thanks.

Does it have a pretty good grip when glass mounted? The guy who posted photos from his 20D was using the 6-cup version.

Definitely going to give one of these a go.

Default What package comes with that extension arm?

From their site, a lot of the pictures don't show that arm. Not sure which package to get.

Default yeah, good grip...

while I cringe at the thought of having any camera, with any mount, on the outside of my car, this one seems pretty stable (inside). I just weighed my camera and it comes in at 1.6lbs. Somewhere on that site, I think they show one of the suction cup mounts holding 75lbs. Ok, I just stuck mine to my dishwasher (I started at the bathroom mirror but quickly realized I would probably rip it off the wall), and I started to deform the front face of the washer before I could pull it off. I now feel much more confident that no little sub-2lb camera is going to pull this off of a window. For security, I'd think the 3-cup is sufficient. For extra stability, you might opt for the 6 cup. I noticed that any vibration/flex in the mount is due to the suction cups being made of rubber/plastic. If you had 3 more, that were spread out by a distance (as the Ultra is), it would help with any pivoting/flex at the suction cup to window connection. This flex is amplified if you have a heavier camera, and/or position the arm extended all the way out to one side [torque = force(product of mass) times distance(from pivot)]. And the ultra is only $13 more. It doesn't look all that easy to convert it back to a 3-cup as the lowest ball mount is rivoted to that small triangle plate (on mine). It would just mean drilling out the rivot and putting a new one (or bolt) in it's place.

Anyway, now after putting some serious human force on this thing, I'm probably going to go take some camera-outside-of-car footage as I feel pretty safe now. I'll be sure to add a tether just in case (so that way the $1000 camera causes $2000 in paint damage to my car)

Default Yeah, I found that a bit confusing at first. The bold red letters begin each package....

I'll see if I can help...

<b>ChaseCam Triple Cup Suction Mount</b>

This one has 3 packages under this common name:

1.) $40 - 3cups w/ camera connection
<img src="http://chasecam.com/mounts/triplecup.jpg">

2.) $60 - 3cups w/ camera connection &amp; interchangeable clamp base
<img src="http://chasecam.com/mounts/triplecup-clamp.jpg">

3.) $70 - 3cups w/ camera connection &amp; clamp base w/ camera conection
<img src="http://chasecam.com/mounts/triplecup-clamp-both.jpg">

Next up is:
<b>Camcorder Window Mount</b>

This is like #1 above (3cups) but also includes the extension and associated connectors to the extension.

$65

Default LOL to your last line ... that's what I was thinking *exactly*! Too funny.

I'd definitely tether my setup as well, but my first thought is "now if the camera comes loose, it'll bang into the paint on the car." LOL. I think, in the end, I'd rather try and get home owner's coverage of a broken camera for a couple grand than have to have bodywork done. ;-)

Thanks for the extra info. My DSLR setup is considerably heavier, probably closer to 7 or 8 lbs with wide-angle zoom lens mounted. Still not sure if the version you have or the Ultra (6-cup) would work better.

Default You should also consider doing that they do for movies...

You should mount some type of clear plastic in front of the lense so that stones and rocks don't hit the camera or lens.
