Default Roof rack brain trust: Yakima vs. Saris for my sedan

I've got a small fortune in Yakima bike & ski mounts, locks, cables etc. I've had the rack on my wife's wagon but I need to have the rack on my car this summer.

My choice is new Yakima Q towers & clips to fit my car (about $200) and I can get it at REI w/ a 20% discount.

OR

Get a whole new Saris set up which will cost about $400-500. Saris looks much easier to remove/mount the rack than Yakima.

I've never used Saris but it looks like good stuff. Do they have any upright mounts so I don't have to remove the front wheel? I didn't see them on their website.

Default Mark . . . I may have a less-than-one year old system you'd be interested in.

Email me for more info (since you don't have your email listed)

Default Are they #24 clips? If so, I may be interested.

I do have a 20% off coupon for the towers at REI and I have a $125 dividend check burning a hole in my pocket. I can always find something other to buy. :-)

Default Do you have load bars? If so the best out there is the Factory Bob. Not the Bob Ratchett. I

am actually selling mine. Used one season in perfect shape. It mounts to any bars, after market or stock luggage rack. It was made by Thule, but Sport-Works bought Thule. It takes less than 30 sec' to put your bike on it. I race DH bikes and owned many, many racks and this is by far the easiest and most conveinient one I have ever owned/used

Default Ah, reread it.

Have a full Yak set, with load bars, sks locks, fairing, towers, clips, two bike mounts and ski attachments with one season on them. I see now that you're not looking at buying another full set.

Default Yeah, I've got 6+ bike mounts, ski rack, bars, cables, 12 SKS lock cores, etc.

I have the double cross mounts for the wife's wagon, just need Yak towers & clips. Thanks though. Oh, and send pics of the sig chick! :-)

Default Also have a Thule Cargo Box I'm trying to get rid of. It's the Pro 5000? I think.

18 cubic feet of storage. Hold 8 pairs of skies/poles, etc. Or 6 Snobaords. Used two times. You seem to have everything but....

Default The clips are Q72s, I think. I used them on my A4 sedan for 4 years.

Maybe they are 24s and I have forgotten, it was a long time ago! Regardless, they fit my 98 A4.
