Default S4 Automatic/ Tiptronic

I am considering buying a 2000 S4 Tiptronic. I would like to hear from people that own these. I am very leery of automatics unreliability. I have always owned sticks. What problems have you had? What needs to be done to take care of these properly? I am looking to buy this car over the weekend so the sooner the better.

Thank you in advance for your replies,

Default The Tip cannot handle as much power (future mods), but I would say as reliable or better than 6spd.

They say the tranny fluid is lifetime, but I will change mine about the same times as the timing belt.

Default 2nd above....if you are looking to mod it heavily then

go with the 6spd. Unless you dont mind shelling out big coin to build the trans to handle more power and torque. 6spd are fun, but I have a nasty commute and prefer the convienience of the tip. no troubles so far, had the car about 18k(bought it with 18k) has been chipped for about 15k. best car I have owned to date.

Default Stage 2+ Tip = Best Daily Driver Available

Seriously, My stage 2+ is the perfect car i have decided. Looks awesome, flat out flys...its bad enough to hand most their a$$es every day, yet refined enough to take the wife out at night...oh, and no problems for grande lattes, cabernets or whatever you prefer on your way- reliablity is great so far *knocks on wood* ...its just freakin awesome...that is all-

Default 3rd. I have no regrets. Even if you stay stock, the B5 S4 is a classic in my book. And if you

decide to mod, if you buy used, getting a chip + cat back exhaust will run you less than $2000 and you'll be around 320 hp/350 lb/ft torque- more than enough power for freeway on-ramps and overtaking, and yet refined for daily driving (ok, well it depends on the chip you get). No regrets at all. I've had mine for over 20k miles. Very happy.

Default I've gone through 5 transmissions in 35,000 miles

I kid.

Only problems I've had with the tip has been getting it upgraded and re-installed properly!
