??S4 Avant problems electrical/drivetrain??
I have a 2001 S4 Avant with 75k miles and it has some minor electrical problems.
-1st: the wiper fluid light will not go off even when its full? can disconnecting the negative side to the battery for a few hours clear this?
-2nd: the check engine light is on. I checked the oil and its fine. I not sure what sensor would engage the check engine light. I know this is vague so should i take it to an Audi dealer? Also is there an aftermarket computer diagnostics tool that is worth buying to see the problems myself?
-3rd: the tranny is a 5spd auto/triptronic and it seems to feel a little more "clunky" with shifts. Is this a sign of the servos going out? Are there any additives for the oil to extend the tranny's life?
-4th: for changing the oil, what brand, viscosity, and should i use synthetic?
Any and all info is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Todd

It takes less than 5 minutes if you don't have hands to pull off your bumper.

SERIOUSLY. WHAT'S A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. IT'S CONFIRMATION YOU OWN
AN S4.
YOU BOUGHT A CAR WITH 2 TURBOS. *EVERYTHING* CAUSES A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND, BTW IT'S AN
OVER-ENGINEERED GERMAN.
SEARCH THE FORUMS OR GET A CIVIC.
OTHER THAN THAT, WELCOME.

Re: ??S4 Avant problems electrical/drivetrain??
-1st: it's probably a problem with the sensor or the wiring
-2nd: the check engine light has no relationship to oil level, it's part of the very complex On Board Diagnostic system that's on all cars since 1996. Stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes can be read by the dealer's proprietary test equipment or by any generic scan tool. It's the first step in any meaningful daignosis.
-3rd: no idea
-4th: conventional wisdom says use synthetic to maximize engine and turbo life; as for brand and viscosity, opinions are like *******s: everybody has one; you'll find lots of opinions here, but nothing definitive
Good luck.
Oh and, rudeness aside, some serious reading/studying will answer more questions than you knew you had.
