S4 and snow
So what is everyone going to do about snow tires and wheels for the S4? I live in Minnesota and am contemplating an S4. Driving with 45 series rubber (even if a true snow tire) won’t cut it on snow and ice. Way too wide - like driving with pontoons. I thought that I would just go down to 16" wheels from an A4 (or even 15") and a 55 or 60 series snow tire for the winter. But I seem to get the feeling from other posts that those wheels won’t fit because of the S4 calipers.
Yes, I know that the best answer is not to drive the S4 in the winter. But with such a great car I’d have to drive it every day, even with reduced handling performance. Winter is just an inconvenience that must be dealt with.

You should be able to get along with all season tires
True snow tires would be nice, but I have spent many a winter in the Northeast with all season tires and had few problems. You will have to drive carefully though. If you can't fit smaller rims go for a narrower tire and a slightly larger overall diameter.

Re: S4 and snow
My wife has an S6 Wagon and in the winter I put on a set of 60 series Blizzaks on Borbet alloy wheels (the tires and wheels cost 900.00 from Tire Rack). Excellent traction in the snow. If you have significant snow falls it's the way to go.

Re: S4 and snow
Pirelli Winter 210 Assimetrico in 225/45-17 should work just fine. It is also one of only 3 "H" rated winter tires that I know of. Most others are Q rated, and your dry road performance will suffer. Keep in mind that the number of times you are driving with actual snow on the road is limited.

S4 snow tires
Latest info from Tire Rack:
Stock A4 16" wheels won't fit. They have one 16" wheel which does fit - the Mille Miglia Spyder. They quoted me $705.00 for four wheels with Michelin Pilot Alpin tires, size 205/55-16.
Gary @ Ronal thinks that virtually all of his 16" wheels will fit the S4.
I have 15" steel wheels from my A4, with 196/65-15 Nokian NRWs. I'll give them a try, but I strongly doubt they'll fit.
I'd love to find a way to put a 195 width tire on my S4 when I get it, but I'm not sure the wheel/tire combination exists to do that. Is there such a thing as 195/60-16?
As all Sierra skiers know, no 4 season tire, and no 225 on a 17" wheel, is ever going to provide optimum performance in the snow. The narrower the tread, and the higher the profile, the better.

I am waiting on an S4 , and I also live in Minnesota
I was planning on buying a set of A4 sport wheels and putting my winter tires on them, but I had no idea that they wouldnt fit. This Sucks! Maybe its just a rumor I hope.
