S4 Sound?
Hi guys, the first thing that got me into S4's happened on an evening a few months ago. I was walking down a city street with some friends late one night in DC and I heard something accelerating past us. I snapped my head around to catch it going by and was surprised to see my first S4.
It was the sound that intrigued me- it was a combination of a high RPM engine sound with a very loud "SHHHHH" sound (obviously the 2 turbos). Again, the most prominent and distinctive sound was this "SSSHHHH" jet-like sound...
So, when I went to test-drive one this weekend, I was very dissapointed to not hear any sound remotely like this when I mashed the pedal! I asked the salesman where the sound was and he replied that I must have heard a modified one :-(
Does anyone know the mod that would make the loud "SSSSHHHHHH!!!" sound? Air intake upgrade? Better Blow Off Valve?
BTW, it was a yellow S4 going by the intersection of 22nd and P St, NW several months ago...

S4's are very quiet on the inside...
I often drive around with the windows down to hear that sound. Don't hear it much buttoned up. I got a speeding ticket where the cop said he "really heard the exhaust as I was accelerating." My exhaust is totally stock so there is alot of difference between the sound inside and out.
It's particularly nice driving through narrow streets where the sound is reflected back. If I didn't want to get pulled over every 10 minutes, I'd put a noiser exhaust.

Next track event...
Everyone says my car sounds like a jet airplane cruising by at WOT. I believe it is the LLtek exhaust and the MTM chip making the extra noise. I have a huge 75MB DV clip of my car near the end of the mile long straightaway at Brainerd. I'll see what I can do to compress it.

more boost = more exhaust flow through the same size exhaust pipe
and thats basically why a chip makes more noise.
try breathing through your mouth normally and then through a straw. which one sounds more like what you heard?
