i have a 99 s4, its done 45,000 miles and has developed a whine from the transmission, it started being apparent in 4th and 5th gears, and now can be heard in sixth, any ideas on this problem, what sort of job is it to remove the box and dismantle?? are there any common problems??
its annoying because i bought a low mileage car to avoid having to do any major repairs

I've heard that it's the throw-out bearing. Any takers?

i bet thats a bitch to change,anyone had the box apart on an s4

"Chirping" during deceleration while under load. Friends "think" its a throw-out bearing as well. At 100k, coudl be anything really. LOL.

unfortunately it isnt that i wish it was, i have no noise when clutch pedal depressed, in england we call that bearing the clutch release bearing or thrust bearing, never heard it called throw out bearing before, but ive learnt something LOL.This noise is there its worse when accelerating hard, although it is there still under normal loads just not as loud
