Default Is the S4's engine a zero clearance engine. (m)

i.e. if the timing belt brakes...the valves hit the head.

Has anyone had problems with the timing belt?

Default it is an interference engine. the valves will leave little "kiss" marks in the pistons.

bends valves. scars seats. possibly bend 1 or 2 rods.
though pricey, changing belts is cheaper.

Default just don't get into a front end collision that is high enough (van, SUV)to jolt the

belt...that WILL make the blet skipa dn the engine WILL destory itself by having the pistons hit the valves...trust me..i'm on my second enegine.
