Default sandpaper noise in steering column..?

Anyone else have this annoying problem?..It seems to happen only when outside temp is warm, and comes from the area between the column and where it meets the dash board. Summer is coming soon, and with temps above 110 here, it will drive me to drink!..anyone have a quick fix before setting up an apt w/my dealer?..thanks in advance

Default Similar noise here.....

...noticed it on some of the milder days (above say 40°F. Kind of a quiet creaking noise when I turn the steering wheel slightly from center. Seems to be coming from within the steering column.

Your noise might be part of the airbag mechanism. There are some springs and wires on the backside of the bag that can cause noises. Fixed a similar noise on my A4. The airbag can be removed from the wheel by removing the two torx screws on the backside of the wheel. If that's something you're not up for, take it to the dealer.

I've had that noise on about all of my Vdubs and Audis, has always gone away on its own.

Default it's the conductor arm thingy for the horn.

same thing happened on my VW late in it's life. Need to pop the steering wheel off and re-lube it.

isn't Ferris the Lube Master? Better call him.

Default It's probably the "Spiral Spring" assembly in the steering column. I have a similar noise (more)...

I have a "plastic rubbing against plastic" type of noise coming from my steering column. Seems to come and go with changes in the temperature. Was told it's the "Spiral Spring". My dealer has tried ordering a new spiral spring 3 times, but they keep getting the wrong part from AOA! They called me this week to tell me they finally have the right part. I have an appointment in 2 weeks to get it replaced. We'll see if this solves the problem. Ask your dealer to check this on your car as well.
