Default The comment was made in conjunction with the announcement of the S8 & S4 Avant…

…at the New York auto show. The statement was made in the context of those vehicles. So a literalist could conclude only those vehicles are tipped to have the numerically higher axle ratio. That the 2001 S4 sedan would share the change was inferred but nobody came out and said, "The 2001 S4 sedan is going to have a shorter final drive."

Still, with certification costs what they are, Audi would be nuts to validate four S4s (sedan 6-sp,
sedan Tip, Avant 6-sp & Avant Tip) with specific axle ratios for each.

Crazier things have happened though.

Besides, the remark was given at a press conference and I wouldn't consider anything said at an auto show media clusterf#!*k confirmed until there are cars for sale at dealers.

If they have no qualms about substituting steel suspension components for aluminum and misidentify the 2000 HP caliper as 4-piston when they are, in fact, 2-piston binders, it's probably healthier to not get too wound up over this one right now.

I'll remain skeptical until I see something for sale on a showroom floor.<p>2000 Nogaro/Silver - S4
