Default Should I...

So my dear A4 is totalled, I'm currently in a rent-a-junk, and I need a new car ASAP since my insurance made me an offer for my car.

I'd like to switch to an S4 Avant (the need for performance plus the need to haul stuff)...I'm not sure I would be able to wait for the '02 A4s (tough time to be stuck trying to buy a car) and the idea of investing a lot of money into a car that is rather sluggish is not so appealing.

But with all this bad mojo going around about bad service experiences, it has in my head both whether S4s are reliable cars over the long haul (and I'm talking 50k+ miles here), and whether I should be supporting Audi and their lackluster service at all.

I really don't want to be paying any more per month than I did on my A4 (I'd like to build up a recording studio), so it seems like I'd have to buy a used S4 unless I could swing a really good deal at the dealer somehow. Anyone in SoCal selling their S4 Avant?

confused and running short on time,
-Brett

Default It all depends. I have two dealers near me...

One is the absolute worst I have ever dealt with, and the other couldn't be more opposite; one of the best. Shop around and find a good dealer. And volume isn't a good indicator; in my case, the bigger dealer SUCKS!!

I bought my last A4 from Vasek Polak (now Pacific). Since they got bought out I felt like their service had become more impersonal (such as no loaners or even rides during services), I know NASA Racer continues to swear by them despite his tragic saga.

What could I reasonably expect if I got a "good" deal? Since this is the last S4 year for a while, it seems like dealers will try to use that to their advantage.

Default Not necessarily true...

The dealer I use (in NY, otherwise I'd recommend it) sold me my current A4, and my 2002 S4, on order. Totally nice. Gave me a great deal. Is also giving my wife an awesome deal on a 2002 A4. Bottom line is, nice dealer will continue to be nice; from my experience.
