Should I trade in my 99 2.8Q for an 00 S4? (more)
I am thinking about trading in my 2.8q for either a 2.7t A6 or an S4. I know this is an S4 board so it might be biased, but what do you all think is a better value? Also, how much can I expect to pay for an "Assured" 00 S4?

Try driving the S4. If you like a sportier ride you will have to buy it. I have a 00 6sp and love it. I can't attest to the current value.
Besides, I'm not a fan of the A6's rear end as much as I admire the rest of the car.

is your 2.8 a tip or 5-speed?...
my wife has an A4 2.8 tip and I HAD an S4 tip, now I have a 6-speed. The cars have quite a different feel, the S4 has heavier steering and a bit tighter ride (my wife's car has Quattro and the sports suspension) and the much-maligned 040s have more grip than her Dunlops. Her car is DONE at 4000rpm but has pretty good off-the line torque for normal driving...an S4 is LIGHT years faster. If you have sports suspension and slap on a supercharger, there would probably be little noticeable difference except having one too few gears.
It's a tough call...the A6 2.7t is a VERY nice car but totally different...much more of a luxury sedan than the S4 and the steering/suspension makes it obviously so.

ah, thought you meant A4 2.8Q tip...
oh you'll notice ALL SORTS of differences with an S4...the S4 is sort of more immediate and "sportier" in steering/suspension feel.
An A6 2.7t chipped is VERY close to an S4 in performance numbers and you KNOW the benefits of your huge back seats...which the S4 certainly does NOT have.
DEFINITELY go drive an S4...you might feel like you're in a hot sportscar by comparison OR you might feel cramped and short of space...how you feel in it is going to be the deciding factor IMHO.

Thanks NASA racer..I had a 328I BMW before and too small
So that is why I bought an A6 rather than an A4 or S4. But if I am going to move up to an A6 2.7T, I figured I should at least see if I like the S4.

yea...
drive the S4 at least once but drive the A6 2.7t next. I have a good buddy on the board with an A6 2.7t tip and when I had my S4 tip we had them chipped at the same shop and did lots of drag runs etc...cars FELT very different from a driving standpoint but his A6 was within .1 at the dragstrip...even MORE of a sleeper than the S4.
PLUS there's more room in the engine bay and this may prove to be a good thing in the long term since cooling seems to be one of the turbo issues with the S4 (though that seems to be more oil line related...still couldn't hurt).

I'd agree. PES supercharger. If you like your A6 except for the lower power, get
the PES supercharger. From what I've heard, its a beautiful set-up.
Your A6 has more room than the A4/S4 body, and the A6 has dual climate control.

PES
