Since the consensus on catbacks is that they don't do much other than change the exhaust sound...

I have to say it: STFA. I've read hundreds of posts saying "get a catback based on sound".
Seemed to be the consensus on this forum.
The debate of whether a single 3" is better or worse than a dual 2.25" still rages to this day.

Anecdotal evidence of how much a stock catback would slow you down at Stage 3...
The stock catback pretty much negated the power gains of going to Stage 3, based on his FATS times.

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/1719656.phtml

Look at my reply to Oo.et.oO. Regardless, stage 3 cars have aftermarket catbacks....
...because they already bought them on their modification journey.
I'm not saying it doesn't make a difference. But, based on all the dynos I've seen between stock andthe differences seem to be very slight. Finding such charts for a comparison of a chipped/DPd/stock catback car vs a chipped/DPd/aftermarket catback car would be more difficult, but all I'm saying is that I want to see the results.

I ran a stock catback on my stg 2++ avant.
Of course I had a custom 3.5" exhaust that I would switch to when going to the track...
My avant ran 12:80's through a stock cat back with APR downpipes and testpipes.

I dunno where you got your consensus from... :-)
Here's what my car did on sock programming, but w/ exhaust and downpipes. Not, I don't have a baseline, but based on all the other stock S4's that they had dyno'd there, I was a good 20-30HP above their average (I was told they usually dynoed around 185-190HP, max).
PS, ignore "GIAC" on the chart.. I had the GIAC IBE installed, and was on the stock program.

I don't feel like struggling with sourcing a catback, so maybe when I go Stg. 3 I can get numbers.
I like numbers rather than "it's so because we say it's so".

What I want to see is numbers for DPs/stock catback. =)
Note that I'm not saying anybody's wrong here, y'all are probably right (and it makes sense to me), I just want to see how right--ie how big of a restriction the stock catback is at higher power levels.

Maybe the consensus is that there are single digit HP differences between aftermarket catbacks.
I have to figure out what I want to say/ask before posting.
Regardless, I'm curious as to how damaging a stock catback is to power levels at high states of modification. That's all. Perhaps I should have said that in the first place =P
