Sipe the P6000 for snow?
I'm considering siping the P6000s so i can take my car skiing. i'm in the seattle area and the only time i really would drive in snow is from the entrance of the ski resort to the parking lot. i would hate to have to get blizzaks for less than 1% of my driving espeically considering that i drive my car very hard. do you think this will work?
My buddy w/ an A6 2.7T ('01) went skiing all season last year on OEM rubber and got by fine but i can't remember what tires those were. anyone know?

That may help, but they're still not M+S rated...
In CA you would be still required to use chains (a big no-no), but if you feel secure without snows go for it. I'd rather spend $600 for snows than crash! I live in SD,CA and the snows are going on next week for the ski trips. I do have a 2nd vehicle for commuting if necessary so I don't wear out the snows. Good luck.

i didn't know until recently either. siping is when...
they make these slices into the tread of your tire. i had it done when i owned a jeep. it looked like someone went crazy w/ an exato knife. apparently they add wet and snow traction and keep the tires cooler.

There's a lot more that goes into a snow tire
Siping is alleged to help traction on ice. Period. It serves no other purpose in this context.
A snow tire's tread is designed to allow snow to clear from the treads. Your P6000's have a tread design that will hold the snow in place. Snow tires have rubber compounded for colder temps. Your Y rated Pirellis have rubber designed for very high temperatures, to earn that high speed rating. They get hard and have very little traction in very cold (i.e. snowy) weather.
In other words -- no, it won't work. If you're going to drive the car in snow, buy snow tires. Anything else is just taking a very expensive risk.
