Small claims court recommendations in CA: warranty claims denied
#13
Take the car to a good independent shop that deals with extended warranty companies regularly
More then likely they have dealt with your warranty company before and probably even dealt with the same field adjuster on previous customer claims.
1. You, the customer must approve tear-down on the car to determine the problem(s) Note: If the claim is not approved, you are financially responsible for the labor, etc.
2. The indy shop writes up a quote for repairs (parts, labor, etc) and submits it to your warranty company.
3. Your warranty company will send out a field insurance adjuster to verify the claim, and either recommend or deny coverage based on his/her findings.
4. If approved (fully or partially) the indy shop should contact you and update you on what the warranty company is willing to pay (usually a flat amount. I.E. $4200).
5. The indy shop starts repairs, installing K03's, K04's, RS6's, etc and writes up the invoice.
6. Your warranty company is billed the agreed amount from step #4, and you just pay the remaining balance.

When the turbo lady sang for me it was only the passenger turbo, the warranty company
was only willing to pay for the blown turbo and I had to pay for the second, including all the necessary hardware. They covered the install but in the end I was still stuck with K03's. Apparently there was no way to get them to let me have any upgraded turbo's installed. It would void the whole warranty is what the shop claimed (dealer).

2nd Turbo
What about the factory issued paper that said turbos should always by replaced in pairs. It was around about 1.5 ys ago? There is no question that Audi reccomends both at the same time. I think?

I called the warranty company and told them this but according to them this was maintenace that they
didn't cover. Yeah, in hindsight I would not have taken it to the dealer. Yet for such a big job I wanted to make sure it was someone who knew a little about doing it.
