exhaust manifold can be changed with the motor in the car?

I don't know enough about all this but my mechanic thinks he can take the turbo off the manifold (leaving the oil and coolant lines attached) and possibly pull the whole head with manifold.

I was just bracing myself for another motor pull but the call I got last PM was more encouraging.

I thought I'd ask for some words of wisdom or tricks anyone may have for doing this without a motor pull.

I want to see him get the turbo out that way.

Default well, you don't need to take the turbo out, just undo the bolts holding it to the exhaust mani...

He's brainstorming, trying to save me a motor pull.

Now, should he have realized that something was making that horrible noise (other than the turbo with shaft play) - - maybe.

But, that is water under the bridge - - he's just trying to do this the fastest way possible.

There are people on here that have replaced turbos without pulling the motor.

SIMPLY I think?

iirc, the turbos w/o motor pull required dropping the subframe.

that's what I thought too - he'll do anything he has to if he doesn't need to pull the motor.

IMO it easier to just pull the motor.
