See my post below in the forum.
They are less aggressive than the Potenza 040's but they are a better all round tire for snow, ice, mud, snow, sand etc..
In PERFECT dry conditions the Potenza's are excellent.
In any other conditions the P7 SS is a much better, and safer, choice.

Okay I really had these tires a few years ago on my Probe GT they were much better in the rain
than the stock goodyears. They wore pretty quickly for all seasons and their dry weather performance had alot to be desired. What was good about them however, was that they let you know when they were at their limit of adhesion and were rather forgiving.
They were size 225/50-16

I had a set on my A4
I ran 225/45 R17s. You'll get good mileage out of them...considering their speed rating. I put 35,000 miles on mine and still had some tread left. Not much, though. That includes a lot of highway miles, a few autocrosses and fun on twisty back roads.
Performance wise, they're good. Not great, but not bad either. They definitely compromise grip on dry roads, but over the first 20,000 miles I found them excellent in the rain. Never tried them out in the snow, I have a 15" set of rims with dedicated winter tires (makes my Audi look like a Euro taxi).
My biggest complaint is that they get really noisey after 20,000-25,000 miles. It snuck up on me gradually...but at one point I was saying to myself "Damn these tires are loud" when at highway speeds. My biggest like for them is that they are cheap, work year round, and they last a long time.
Would I buy them again? Nope. I'll be going with Bridgestone SO-2 PPs for my next set of tires.

I had the same experience on my previous A4
I had 225/45/17s on my A4 and I observed the same observations that Josh did. For me, the noise bugged me alot earlier though. The droning noise bugged the heck out of me when I got just a few thousand miles on them. I'll never ever buy them again. They are quite a good compromise for all weather driving. If you want a set of tires for year-round driving and push the tires to their limits once in awhile, they'll be fine if the noise won't bother you.
