Default Some insight on the Alum vs. Steel Upright Issue - from an insider

Basically, S4 models are produced with both the steel front suspension upright and the aluminum suspension upright. According to Audi, there is no performance difference between the two parts, Audi supplies the uprights based on logistics and parts availability. Recent improvements have resulted in their ability to produce high strength forged steel uprights with similar characteristics of that of the aluminum components.

They understand that the marketing literature may not reflect this..and they are involved in tasks to rectify that situation. They request that internal Audi personnel help disseminate this information.

This information comes from AoA's Product Planning group.

BTW, I got this information from a little birdy that I know.<p>Steve S.

Default Great, lets get our cars together Steve, pull off the uprights and weigh them.

My car was built 6/99 and I have Alum front, I assume you have Steel front.

Head to head comparison to see who is the heavier...upright that is.

If Audi can prove they weigh the same -- I'll back off. They seem reluctant to do this though!
