Default Some questions about all these Audi thefts...(more)

It's really bothering me hearing about all these Audi thefts. Especially of the S4's. It also doesn't help that I live in the NY/NJ area...

Questions, how effective is the immobilizer in our cars??? How are thieves able to get around this??? Has the immobilizer been changed or "upgraded" from the '00 - '03's?? Would it help significantly if I got the "anti-theft" modes from tuner chips??
If anyone has more info about this, it'd be greatly appreciated...

Default first of all, there is no factory immobilizer in a 2000-2002 S4. there might be a chip in the key

but there isn't anything in the car to match it to. If the alarm is going off, the car won't start, BUT they're bypassing it all together. It would definitely help to get one of those chips w/ security built in.

My philosophy is make them have to flatbed your car to get it: make it impossible to start and chances are, it'll still be there when you go back to it.

Default As Steve said, there is no immobilizer. Ignition kill, yes, but thieves get around that.

You MUST safeguard your car in other ways, whether it's through aftermarket security systems, killswitches, disklok, autolock, mods, etc etc. And as 'Nova said, nobody is going to reveal too many details here in such a public place. If you do in fact live in NJ/NY, then it's easy enough to meet other S4 people to get ideas on how to improve security.
