Default Spanked! (more)

Had a little fun with a black SVT Mustang Cobra yesterday; unfortunately, he had more fun than I did. :-) Flushed with success from my victory over a new black GT last week, I decided to try my luck. He was willing to subject his machine to a bit more abuse than I...he practically redlined it before dropping the clutch, and I don't think he let up on the gas at all when he clutched it for the 1-2 shift. I launched ar around 3000 RPM, and managed to hold even with him until his 1-2 shift, after which he pulled ahead by around 3 car lengths....I closed the gap a bit after that, but decided soon after that this was a bit too fast for a curvy access road! All in good fun...

He was a really nice guy, and I asked him if it was stock; he'd had some exhaust work done, and had a supercharger on order.

But that was certainly an impressive display. I think I could have done better with better gas; this latest tankful was purchased at Sam's Wholesale Club, and it does seem noticeably slower...perhaps I'll see if he's up for a rematch after refeuling. :-)<p>'00 S4

Default Not surprising

I got a ride in one and the guys was screaching tires in 1st AND 2nd gear, redlining the whole time. That thing has serious torque, as I was literally pinned to the seat, neck straining. You'd be hard-pressed to outrun it off the line, but, as you know all you need to do is start turning the wheel a few times and you've lost him.

Default No way, dude!

That guy's dealer is going to _love_ him, because if he does that redline-clutch-pop thing very often (especially after he installs a supercharger), he'll be getting a nice new driveline, pronto! :-)<p>'00 S4

Default That's what I was thinking...

I figured that chipped, rather than keeping even I'd have gotten him off of the line...he may have pulled even on that 1-2, though, because he really took off....well, maybe someday...<p>'00 S4

Default Yeah, it was quick...

Not so sure I'd leave him in the corners either: remember, the SVT has an independent rear suspension, and it's lighter. But it's an American car; 'nuff said. :-)<p>'00 S4

Default This is why I would NOT buy a used Mustang!

Most of them lead very hard lives.

Doing really hard launches has to be hard on the Quattro drivetrain as well, you've got twice as many things to wear out as a 2WD drive.

Default Yup....

Highest RPM I've launched at is 3000, and those have been _very_ few, and those weren't with a popped clutch...I'm not prepared to trash a driveline to win a race, simple as that.<p>'00 S4

Default I've kept up with an SVT Cobra off the line and on the highways.....

but then again, I'm chipped. Without the chip there is no hope of winning. I did not pull away but neither did the SVT so I would call mine a tie.
