Spoke to the dealer.. update on my non-starting S4..
Which really should be called my "valves-slamming-into-pistons" S4.
AOA approved the work but the dealer wants me to sign something that says I haven't modified the engine computer when I pick it up (they estimate the work should take 1-2 weeks). Are there any potential downsides to doing so?

uh...that is questionable....the statement should say you didn't modify anything that would
mess up your engine...technically you could argue taht the turbos and tubro pluambing are part of the engine...so replacing hte valves is technically podifying hte engine....

There could be...
...and it could be used as a setup to nail you for fraud. I'd find out if it's AoA or your dealer that wants it. If it's the dealer, it sounds like a cover their *** move to me. It doesn't sound like an AoA ploy, who are the ones paying for the repair.

I questioned him about it..
The dealer wants it to make sure they get paid for the work and doesn't want any problem when they get their next Warranty Audit.
AOA hasn't requested anything like that.

i agree. if AoA wants it, they could be setting you up. if dealer wants it, they just don't want
AoA to come down their asses. or AoA and your dealer could be in "cahoots" (spelling si terribly off).....just make sure to read the statemetn over before you sign it and don't sign it if it ain't true...which, depending on what htey mean by the engine...could be true or false....you need clarification.

Oh.. and more about what he said went wrong.
Apparently the timing belt did jump, though it didn't break. He also said that one side of the engine has (or had) 140lbs. of compression while the other side has 0. That sounds especially strange to me.. perhaps I misheard him or he's mistaken.

I don't think a manufacturer can condition their warranty obligations on an affidavit. I would be
very leary and pissed off to tell you the truth. Like Lance said, find out if it's the dealer or AoA.
