Default Stick lessons (??)

I've driven stick car's before a few times... maybe a total of a few weeks worth of driving in them. But they've also been junky cars... like beat-up '82 VW golf's and Dasher's... a Dodge Colt somewhere in there etc...

I think I'm going to need classes to "get it right" on a nice new expensive car :/

Where? How? Huh?
Or should I learn on it?

A little background: On my test drive, I stalled the car 3 times (I'm not used to "nice" clutch), and when I'd gotten done driving around town (10 mins or so), it just wreaked of burnt clutch... :/

Reading about Jim D's clutch story (disaster?) has me more than a tad nervous.

Default At the risk of sounding like the "bad guy"

have you considered renting a car for a week that has a stick ... not the nicest idea, but a lot better than killing your own clutch.

Default I'm with M2Rock...

I don't recommend learning how to drive a stick on a $40+K car. I first learned how to drive a stick on my '84 Celica GT and @#$%ed the cluth up big time. It was an expensive set of lessons. Either rent a car for a few days and learn on that or check with some of your local driving schools...

Check out the Bob Bondurant High Performance Driving School in Chandler,Arizona. There are plenty of different coarses to choose from.Located adjacent to Firebird Raceway,it is an excellent facility. You can find ads for the school in most car enthusiast magazines.

I think some of the larger U-Hauls and Ryder trucks (~20-24 foot) can be found with a 4-on-the-floor

Default $55/day solution...

Specialty Rentals rents a stick Miata for $75/day. You can even get a stick TT, but that's a bit more pricey. You get to drive a cool car and trash someone elses clutch first .

Default Best solution out there....

-Find a coworker with an M3
-Go out drinking with him after work at a local dive
-Buy all of his drinks and the ugly women he's macking on
-Get him totally sh*tfaced drunk
-Offer to drive his car home as to "not leave it in this neighborhood"
-He'll past out in shotgun and stall-out to your heart's desire.

Works like a champ. Though the M and S4 clutches are different, you'll still get the basics down. I did this and do fine (though I still can't heel-toe on steep inclines). S4 is my first manual tranny car.
