Strange drivetrain noise...
Alright this noise is extremely odd as it is difficult to reproduce consistently. Whenever I'm driving at a relately slow speed with low rpms I hear a sound for a second of what I can only describe like a belt slipping or something but without the ear piercing shrill. It has a kind of metally sound to it as well but not overly grinding. If I hover around the same rpms for a while i can extend the sound for a little more than a second but my concern is what the hell is it and how can I fix it.
Thx guys!

I had an unusual sound in my transmission...
It showed up when I was coasting at low RPMS... it sounded almost like something in the dash squeaking, or as you said a belt slipping...
I never did find out what was causing it, but the fix involved the dealer having my car for three months while they rebuilt the transmission twice before I got AoA involved and they replaced the unit. Last I talked to AoA about it, they had no idea what the problem was and aparently sent the unit back to Germany or some such thing to try to figure it out.
If you're under warranty and haven't done anything to the car that might've caused it, I'd just get it into the dealer and let them check things...
Synchros are only under load when the car is changing gears... even a completely shot synchro won't make noises when the car is actually in gear. It could be a bearing going bad in the unit. They first changed my throw-out bearing (which turned out to be bad anyway, but not the cause of the noise in my case), followed by a second attempt changing all the bearings, so it can certainly be something else, though...
