Default subie v. vw

OK...I know this might be getting old but I think I'm finally narrowing down my search. And frankly, this board is one of the best and helpful I've found (could be the lack of teenagers...no offense to those age-challenged here).

It's looking like this for my sub $25K vehicle:

02 WRX wagon
pro- fast, great handling, a wagon, easy entry for my son (rear door)
con- no sunroof or leather (hey, I got a crappy commute...I'd like some creature comforts).

02 GTi hatchback
pro- fast (180hp 1.8T), great handling (but not awd), leather, sunroof, 4/50 warranty
con- a little harder entry to rear seat (although the front seat folds up and forward), fwd, less hauling space than wrx

01 GTi hatchback
pro- cheap (invoice now), can have it today
con- 1.8T is only 150hp (chip can fix that though) and the interior spec I want only comes in the 174hp VR6. I could get that, but I found the 1.8T to be a smoother engine (and I can't easily mod the VR6 if I want). Also only 2/24 warranty.

Did I overlook anything? Any thoughts on '02 w/more stock hp and warranty vs. '01 (and if '01, 1.8T vs. VR6)?

Default I call "frank" to the stand as an expert witness . . .

but IMO, as much as I love VW's, get the WRX!

Default You can get a sunroof as a dealer-option on the WRX...

at least, that's what my local Scoobie dealer told me...

I'm assuming they hack the roof up, but they say it's a clean job *shrug*

Default you missed the fugly look (WRX), v. a beautiful hatchback (GTI)

I'd say get the GTI, you won't be dissapointed with the VR6. And....you can always turbo that thing.

i dont know about that, the dealer told me something about the c frame or whatever in the roof, made it impossible to put a sunroof in without losing structural support. That is why they are not offered, nor installed.

Default Weird... mine said they can do it, it will just be either a pop-up, or slide-up-and-back

kind....

that is, not into the roof, itself
