Talk me into getting an S4
So I've wanted an S4 for hmmm about 2 years now. I'm finally in a position to purchase one, thanks to my Ford Contour SVT throwing a rod bearing at 94k miles. Anyways with this experience in mind I really don't want to get the shaft like this again. This is making me think twice about the S4 for obvious reliability reasons. I do understand that mostly you hear about failures and that there are plenty of people who have had no problems and high miles but I still can't get it out of my head.
Also I look at other cars like the G35 that have such modern styling, however the S4 is classic and I have always liked the sleeper look. I love everything about the S4 except for the seats. My COntours seats held me in better but thats just knit picky and I can live with that since the rest of the interior makes up for that.
Anyways just wanted to get some feedback on the car. So try you best to talk me into it IT probably won't take much. I guess as long as I have a warranty it doesn't matter.
Main dilemma is which to get:
1) 2000 from an individual. Seems like he is a fellow car enthusiast and took car of the car. Haven't seen it in person yet as its about 5 hours away. It has 29k miles on it and is AUdi assured so it has about a year left on warranty. He is asking $25k and is willing to work with me on possibly an extended warranty.
2) 2001 (don't think it was mid year) from a Dealer. Looks like a clean car and I could probably get it audi assured since its at a Audi Dealer. They are asking $28k and it has 28k miles.
Both are six speeds with all options except Nav & phone. Both have black interior....2 is Black exterior and 1 is Silver w/ Black ext.
Curious what you think....In all reality my price range is more so in the $25k range.
Thanks for all the help and hopefully I'll be a fellow S4 owner.
Thanks,
Justin

Re: GO with the 01. It'll save you headaches in teh future adn a warranty is always a plus.
THe reason why I'm leaning towards the 2000 is because its Silver. My previous car was Black and I'm a bit tired of that color.
ALso IF they Certify it for free it would only have 2 years more warranty. I could get more warranty with an aftermarket warranty if I could add and aftermarket warranty.
Plus I knew who drove the car and this guy has taken good care of the 2000 S4. I am not sure what shape the 2001 is in because it is also 5 hours away.
Do you think they will try to charge me for the Audi Assured Warranty?
Maybe I could get the guy to throw in the Ext. Warranty on the 2000?

they may charge you, but since you ar looking at warranty - you are considering
makign sure that the car is to run trouble free -there are some benefits of the 2001 over the 2000 - bpv's, TBB, f-hose, revised turbo oil lines, etc. A quick search of the archives should bring up some more detailed info. Good luck on your search!
