Default Is there a new S4 on the horizon?

I hope I'm not asking a question that's been beat to death here. An S4 is on my short list of cars to consider and I was wondering what anyone here knows about a re-designed S4 in light of the A4. I'm not concerned about the looks, since I prefer the look of the previous A4 and current S4. I'm more concerned with what if anything Audi plans to do mechanically since the 3.0 has closed the gap somewhat between the A4 and S4.

Thanks for any info you may have.

Default Current reports are...

In about 1 year or so, there will be an S4 based off the new A4 (8E) platform. It will likely be a 2002 model and have a 4.2L V8. Another biturbo V6 based on the 3.0 is not out of the question though. The car is reported to likely have 340 hp or more and a higher pricetag.

Yes, this has been beat to death...so ignore some of the wise *** responses you may receive ;-)

Default Re: Current reports are...

The much higher cost is what I fear. The difference in price in a year or so would mean a lot of aftermarket goodies for one now. Right now I'm trying to arrange the wife to go for a tst drive. She has driven my neighbor's '98 A4 with Tip and liked it. She loves the look of the car, but she said, "Why is the one you want (S4)so much more money? It looks just like Steve's car?"

I told her it is the same, just on steroids!

Default A test drive for her is a great idea! (m)

but I warn you...there are VERY few 2002 S4's left in the country. I'm talking maybe a handful, likely all with Tip tranny.

If you are looking for a used one, then they are around.

Default Keyes in Van Nuys...

Keyes (Van Nuys, CA) has a new Silver/Onyx S4 6-Speed with dealer installed Oettinger REs and a Remus exhaust on the floor... They're asking a bunch for it, but it's one of the last '02 6 Speeds left...

I love my '01!

-Michael.
