Default Is there room in the location of the OEM mic for the Motorola IHF1000 mic?

I put the mic on the shaft of the rear view mirror, and the voice recog is really sucking. But, since they say about 16" away from the speaker (person talking) for the mic, i figure moving it an extra 6" closer should do the trick. But before I got tearing apart the control stuff up there, I was wondering if anyone else had installed the moto mic (in its casing) into that area.

Default I just put mine on the little visor flap, but it does sometimes suck when there's a lot of road nois

If you come up with a decent mounting setup, let me know.

Default So sounds like we put it pretty close to the same place? The little flap guy...

above the rear view mirror. You getting good speech recog? Not so much here...although I did train the few numbers while the mic was pointed outside and down...

I'm gonna try to move it into the OEM mic area. *should* be better, in theory, since its closer to your mouth, *but* maybe not if not pointed towards the speaker.

Default I installed a nokia mic and it was shaped similarly and fit perfectly.

If the Motorola mic didn't fit like the factory mic, from what I remember, there was lots of room up in there so you could probably get creative and make something work without too much trouble.

I disassembled the mic from the nokia casing and spliced the wires in btw.

Default Sometimes it works perfectly, other times, it barely works.

I think the OEM mic area is further from the windshield so there should be less road noise. I didn't even try opening up the Motorola mic to see if it would fit in the OEM location.

Its something I wouldn't mind trying at some point.

People can usually hear me alright and I can hear them fine, but the speech recognition is touchy.

Why not just splice into the factory microphone?

From what I've read, the factory mic doesn't work well with motorola (or maybe all) handsfree kits.

Default I think I'm gonna play with the location. I'll let you know what I find out...

From generic::cbp's comment's above, sounds like there's alot of room to play with, so it shouldn't be too tough.
