thinking of buying a 2002 A6T 2.7 6-speed
I currently drive a 2000 Viper GTS. After moving to the SF bay area from Texas, I'm appalled at the gas prices, the crappy roads, the cost of insurance etc. and have decided (well practically anyway) to trade in the Viper for a 'sport luxury sedan'. I'm a relatively young guy with no family here, so I don't need a world of space. I test drove an A6TT 2.7 6-speed yesterday and really enjoyed it. While the Viper has all the power you need and then some, it is sorely lacking in the comfort and convenience departments.
Previous cars I've owned include a 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo, a 1995 Supra Twin Turbo, and a Supercharged Civic. Each time I bought my next car, I spend some time doing the research to find out what the enthusiasts of that particular brand have to say about it. With Audi, though, I just don't know too much about it. So, here are my questions:
1. should i wait till the 2003 A6 shows up?
a. the value should hold up longer since it's a year newer
b. they always seem to change *something*
2. What is the 'best' current Audi? I'm talking about overall performance and driveability, as well as what can be tweaked. What do 'most' Audi enthusiasts go for?
3. The only 2002 A6 the local dealer has in stock has a ton of options already on it - i can't remember them all but i think it's all of them but the navigation and the window shades. they told me that pretty much all A6's already have those options and that i wouldn't really be able to 'build my own' A6. Has anyone else seen this to be the case?
4. A twin turbo car with 250hp seems a little underpowered, especially for being so heavy. I'm not all about speed (i'm trying to slow down a little), but i'm wondering if there are easy mods that boost power reasonably well.
5. Buy or lease? assuming the terms are both pretty good, i'm wondering what experiences with both anyone has had.
6. Stereo upgrade
a. Does the Bose include an indash 6 disk changer or an amp?
b. Is it easy to put a normal din size radio in place of it? I have an EMPEG mp3 player that negates my need for a cd or tape or radio unit completely.
6. does anyone on the list have a 2002 A6T 6-speed that wouldn't mind letting me drive it? I'd be happy to exchange a ride in the Viper for it!
