I lived/used one in Virginia for three years and never got caught.
There is some absurd ration of State Troopers that actually have that unit on their vehicle. In addition, only state troopers may use them, not sheriff's. I ran a V1 for three years.

only illegal to use them V1 works great /not dectectable...
Ilive in richmond VA and thave A valentine 1 and have used it from here to ohio with no tickets or detion from cops. It has saved me 7-8 times in less than a year ..

How is a radar detector detectable? It says right in the V1 manual that it is just a sensitive
radio receiver tuned to certain frequencies. It's not putting out any RF, just receiving it, deciding what it is, and displaying it for you to see.

There are radar detectors that leak signals. My V1 will occasionally detect
them in other vehicles if they are close and I don't have any of the filters on. If the detector were built to eliminate emissions then it wouldn't be detectable since a radar detector is just a receiver.
