Default For those of you with experience

With a manual tranny, does the gas cut off and take you all the way down to idle rpm's when you hit the redline?

Do you bounce around on the redline for a few seconds, and then does it take you to idle?

Am I wrong all together?

For those of you with experience, please run me through the paces of the red line fuel shut off sequence, and how it effects your driving....

In my A4(Non-DBW) and similarly in the S4(DBW), you get a massive cut off and lose a good 2k rpms...

Default No, forceing it to ideal is too dangerous.

It keeps it smoothly at redline.

Default It's a pretty soft redline... I mean, it will hit redline and stay there...

1st and 2nd might be a little more harsh, since the accel. is so much more

Default Tanner is right, you can hold it against the limiter...

For example, on the track if you run out of rpm on a short straight where an upshift would be a waste of time you can hold it against the limiter for a second or so until it's time to squeeze on the brakes. It'll stay against the limiter there as long as you keep your foot down.

It's not a dramatic event.

Default Did you find that was true with stock chip as well?

I've not spent a lot of time on the rev limiter, but the one or so time I've hit it, it seemed I dropped a few K rpms.

Hmmm...

Yep, have held it for over a second in both 2nd & 3rd gears at the track before (stock & chipped)

I see, it must be me freaking out and lifting off the gas that causes the RPMs to drop...

That's probably the case ;-) For me, it climbs to redline and then just sits there
