For those of you with rough starting probs w/ the 551-M box...
I think I might have found a solution.
My car has been starting up really rough in the colder mornings, and my dealer has told me that this is just something to be expected with this car. I remembered that it did not do this to me when the car was new, so I had some problems with being told that there was nothing that I could do to correct it.
Recently my car threw a DTC for a coolant sensor problem, and since it takes over a month to get a service appt, I decided to replace the sensor myself ($6 part). After I put this new part in, the car runs and idles noticably smoother. I found it was less likely to stumble and run rough in the mornings, and it also felt like it idled smoother even when it was warm. Since signals from this sensor define the parameters of the fuel injection system, it makes sense that if it was not functioning properly, this would cause the car to run rough.
So take this for what it's worth, but if you have the rough idling problem, you may want to throw a new one of these into the car and see if it helps.
I replaced the passenger side sensor (4 wire connector) which was that most often goes south. (as described by my dealer)
