Default Throttle...

My S4's accelerator pedal feels more like a switch compared to my 97 A4's, which felt more mechanical. Did Audi switch to fly-by-wire throttle? Is it just for the S4 or do the new A4s have that too?

Default You know...

My Black S4 (build date 7/99) felt this way too but my Silver S4 (build date 9/99) feels MUCH better, Almost the same as my old A4.

S4 is drive-by-wire. No throttle cable

I think for the S4 we should call it "fly-by-wire"

Default In my mind it's not drive-by-wire...

unless all of the inputs are electronic and fed through a processor. This would be analagous to true 'fly-by-wire' on an aircraft, where throttle, all elevator, rudder, and aileron controls, and anything else that controls the aircraft's movement are fed into a processor and massaged. Personally, I think if this is done right in an automobile with the throttle, steering, brakes, and transmission all being reprocessed, you could drastically affect the performance of the vehicle as you desire within the limits of the vehicle itself. It could take ESP to another level.

Also on my wish list: four wheel steering

Default Ah, I was refering to a different meaning by fly-by-wire.

I meant fly in WOT fly.
A4 = drive by wire
S4 = fly by wire
