ticket for front windows tint & possibly buying S4
I'm in San Diego, CA..my wife got nailed in a speed trap and he also wrote her up for the minor front window tint we have..
Obviously, I can take it off and have it signed off free by the highway patrol but I'd rather avoid that.. Plus I hear your windows are never the same after you pull off the tint(damn glue).
Can I just pay the fine(still haven't gotten it in the mail) and keep on driving with it on?
Also I might be in the market for an S4 in the next couple months..any chance I might be able to get one(new) or do I have to wait for the next body style.. Does anybody have any real info on the new model yet?

Never personally took it off, but heard Kerosene, that's correct...
Kerosene takes it right off with no residue. Also, if you have less than 35% tint (i.e., let's at least 35% of ambient light through), most states permit this. Not totally sure about CA, but never heard it being a problem even when I lived in LA.
As for new s4s, they are done being built for 2-3 years. Depending on where you live, you may be able to still get a 2002 that the dealer ordered, but is not spoken for yet. You could also possibly get a 2001 off the lot.

Re: ticket for front windows tint & possibly buying S4
I had to remove front tint on my Grand Cherokee to pass inspection (missouri allows no front tint). The best results I had was using a cloth soaked with Goo Gone to loosen the glue, then hit it with a razor blade. You can get 99% of the glue, but plan on spending some time. It is not a fun process.
Just tinted my Avant, and pray I do not get ticketed. I went with 5% around rear, and 50% on the front two. Usually the contrast fools the average cop into thinking there is no tint up front.

There is a Federal Law (FMVSS) that allows tint...
Technically making the state laws that prohibit tint illegal...or so the tint lawyers would have you believe... ;-)

http://www.berksweb.com/users/dmv/tint/fmvss205.html</a
