Default Timing Belt poll, ALL dealer or Dealer installing parts bought elsewhere?

OK, I am approahcing 100k miles on my car, and Am pretty sure the timing belt has never been replaced. Previous owner said turboes were replaced around 40k though. Regardless, I do not have access to a shop nor have a network like PEB up here, so my options are me and a couple friends gettign by without the cam lock tool, or just taking it to the stealer. The dealer qouted me $750 for labor, beign at 8.5 hours worht of work, and the complete thing for ~$1300 with parts. My question is would you just take it in to them or would you go somewhere like ECS and order up the ultimate package and have the dealer install it?

Orrrr, if you have any other options.

Default I would just order the parts from ECS Tuning and do it myself. I was scared to touch anything...

that had to do with belts not being sure how to install the coorectly so I had a guy (Jeff Doyle) from AW come by and show me how to do it. After watching him do it, it's not as bad as I thought. If I were to do it all over again it would probably take me about 3-4 hours to do.

https://forums.audiworld.com/allroad/msgs/105861.phtml</a

Get the bar and crank lock and DIY. I'm not too fond of VAG dealer service.

Default Got mine at Zelenda. 3391's the bar 3242 for the crank IIRC. You may

want to verify in Bentley which is very handy to have during this job if you don't already. It's nice to have the torque and correct procedure for everything, although, some things are just a little bit wrong (in typical Bentley fashion).

Zelenda camshaft bar

Default Purchasing the tool shouldn't be an obstacle.

You can buy the tool pretty cheap...and when you're done, resell it. There are tons of people here in need of this tool, so it should sell quickly. Furthermore, the A6 2.8 and 2.7T, and A4 2.8 engines can also use the same tool, so you'll find a buyer quickly.

Now, if you don't want to do the work yourself, that's another matter.

Personally, if I was paying another shop to do the install, I would let them get the parts. That way, if there is a parts issue down the road, labor and parts are covered by the shop. If you source the parts from ECS on your own, and a roller starts getting noisy, the shop you paid to do the work will expect you to pay for labor to go back in and replace the part. Furthermore, if you're not sure which part is making the noise, you'll have no choice but to take everything apart, located the failure, contact ECS, wait for a replacement (car will be down the entire time), blah blah blah. And then there is the worst case scenario...timing belt blows, and you argue with shop and ECS trying to determine if it's a part or labor issue. Naturally both would deny responsibility, etc. etc. Bottom line: Great big can o worms.
