Tire size question: what width GS-D3's for 8.5" wheels?
Time to order summer tires; after much STFA'ing, going with the Goodyears. On the Falkens I had last season, fitment was fine, almost no rubbing. I read here that GYs run a little wide, and that Falkens run narrow, but the manufacturer specs don't seem to indicate that:
ST115 235/40/18's (old setup):
25.3"-dia
9.6"-section width
8.3" tread width
GS-DS 225/40/18
25.1"-dia
9.0"-section width
7.7" tread width
GS-DS 235/40/18
25.4"-dia
9.5"-section width
8.1" tread width
GS-DS 245/35/18
24.7"-dia
9.7"-section width
8.2" tread width
So, WWAWD?
My ride setup:
18"x8.5" ET35 RX-II's
Ride height ~25.25"
Moderately rolled fenders
Street only for now

235's. I have 235's on my 8" rims and they just barely afford some rim protection...
...you'll have less with 8.5" rims and "negative" rim protection with 225's on an 8.5" rim. Of course, you may need some fender rolling, and if you drive over bumps in the road too fast so that your suspension compresses too much, they might still rub a bit, but that's not the end of the world occasionally.

Well, I'm not averse to raising my ride height a little. Still, based on the specs...
it seems that I should have a bit more clearance with the 235's compared to the Falkens, and that the 245's would be just 0.1" wider, while being closer to stock diameter.

<confused> OK, do they "just barely afford some rim protection" or provide "the best rim
protection of any tire [you've] had..." I guess you're saying that your previous tires had no rim protection...
So, are there "rim flange protectors" or not? If not, maybe I should get 245's for better protection on 8.5" wheels.
