Toluene as an Octane Booster? Experiences? Nervous about putting paint thinner in the tank...
I know that Peter posted a link to a site with a wealth of information about using toluene as a fuel additive. I was wondering if anyone else here has used it at all and if so, what were their results? I bought the last gallon of toluene at Mcguckins hardware in Boulder tonight, and I would really like some reassurance before I pour PAINT THINNER into my fuel tank...
Thanks!<p>Adam

No offense but....You are a FOOL if you do! That is more combustable than gasoline. If you run that in your car don't do it in Chicago!

Check archives at bimmer.org (M3). It's been done...
with both favorable and unfavorable results.

Keep in mind that toluene is highly carcinogenic.
If it were me, I'd stay as far away from the stuff as possible. This stuff is as bad (and in some cases, worse) than benzene.
If uncombusted toluene doesn't first ruin the cats and manages to make it out of the tailpipe, you're basically driving around spewing a highly toxic carcinogen into the air for yourself and your fellow motorists to inhale.
I'd advise against it.

If you're wondering, this is a decent resource...
