Default Topic of low S4 resale values -

Comparison with another similar car - lets say Toyota Supra Turbo.

S4
Easily mod-able (to a reasonable level - 400HP)
Good looking - more classy
four doors with more room in the back - i.e. more practical
Most people who own them, love them
Fairly luxorious and easy to add lux - Phatbox, Nav+, etc.
Not as reliable
Easy to find

Supra
Easily mod-able (to a reasonable level - 450HP)
Good looking - more sporty
only two doors - 2+2 - i.e. not as practical
Most people who own them, love them
Not as luxurious
Reliable - for the most part
Hard to find

You can buy a decent mileage S4 (under 100k) for $15-20k these days. A decent mileage Supra (under 200k) is $25-40k.

Is the difference due to reliablility (Supra>S4)or availability (S4>Supra) - I think they are otherwise equal?

Once more S4 are taken out of commission, will the value increase - i.e. are S4's future classics like the Supra?

Default IMO it's 90-95% based on tuner groups/magazines/movies/marketing hype.

If more people knew wtf an S4 is, the demand would be a lot higher.

Agreed... but I don't really mind. Even in stock form, it's a bit of a sleeper.

Default You can find a Supra?!? :=) Seriously though, I love the fact that these Euro cars are so cheap

They make great values for the enthusiast buyer after they are a few years old!

Default In SD or LA you can find them fairly easily

Just did a search on Autotrader and came up with 20 hits from $15k to 45k.

Some nice ones too.

Default Was looking at mods for both beyond chip and/or MBC

S4 at 400hp
K04, chip, and fueling at $7k

Supra at 450hp
Single turbo, "chip", and fueling at $5k

Supra's can get to 400hp with MBC and not much else. Beyond that is tougher - but they can take quite a bit more power with money.

The S4 currently tops out quickly largely due to engine bay issues. The Supra is nice due to the lay out of the engine - the single turbo is fairly easy.

Default $50k for the Supra

Although there was a stretch when Toyota was giving them away for $10k off that price - if only I had the money then.

The RX-7 has the same issues as the S4 plus is not near as practical - only 2 seats. The RX is less reliable than the S4 and tops out at a relatively low HP.

Default I just love the styling of the RX7

One of the sexiest Japanese cars of all times IMO.
