Total Bullsh*t - pulled over for speeding & passing on the right
Driving in the right lane on the Merritt Pkwy in CT heading back from a wedding in NJ yesterday when I come up by a CT State Trooper who's in the passing lane doing 60- speed limit is 55. She is passing no one- just cruising in the left lane. I'm doing about 62 (because I saw her up ahead) and slowly pass by on the right. She pulls behind me and the lights go on. She tells me that she pulled me over for speeding and passing on the right!!! WTF?? After pleading my case and trying to point out in a nice way that she was in the passing lane and not passing anyone, she dropped the speeding charge but gave me a ticket for $78 for passing on the right. F*cking Bullsh*t. Anyone know if this violation carries points? If so, is it as bad as speeding? I would like to contest it but it would require travelling about 2.5 hrs each way...

here in CT
it is only legal to pass on the right on a limited access/divided highway that has 3 or more lanes in each direction. The Merrit is a 2 lane parkway.
However people pass on the right all the time, mainly due to left lane hogs. Unfortunately, you chose the wrong person to pass

None taken however....
I'm talking about the real world here. No one gets ticketed for doing 62 in a 55. With that in mind, if I'm cruising in the traveling lane doing a reasonable speed and come up on a car going slower than me in the left lane, I have to then match my speed to theirs so as not to pass by?
That's bullsh*t...

I hear you, and would agree except for the fact that the other car was a trooper...
not just some bozo snoozing in the left lane. I know it's a pain but I wouldn't risk the pass myself.
