Tuning chips for more HP and less torque???
Is it possible for the chip companies to tune their chips for more HP by trading off the amount of torque they produce?
2001 Santorin/Onyx

I don't think so...
...of course you could intentionally reduce the amount of torque down low and still get high RPM peak horsepower, but why?

hp vs. torque
First, torque is real. It is what moves the car and what the dyno measures. HP is a calculated value and is dependant on where in the RPM range the torque is generated.
If you look at the Honda S2000 (or Civic Si), they both have very little torque, but lots of HP. This is because their max torque is generated at such a high rpm.
Unfortunatly, because the S4 is an oversquare motor (the stroke is greater than the bore) it cannot handle high RPMs. Being oversquare means piston speeds and bottom end stress' are higher than an undersquare(?) motor at a given rpm.
