Default that sounds like the wastegate sol valve duty cycle... not turbo capacity.

Default About duty cycles

First of all, lets talk frequency valve duty cycle. This is adjusted according to the turbo's p/r. At lower rpm's, turbo's can handle alot more boost. Therefore the duty cycle can be as high as 95%. However, at higher rpm's, where they struggle to flow, the duty cycle can be lessened, so that less boost is produced. This is done to protect the turbos. So just because a chip hits a max of say 1.2 bar, doesnt mean its detrimental to the turbos. That same chip may only be pushing .8 bar at 6000rpm. Keeping a proper A/F ratio and timing is just as important as boost when it comes to longetivity. High EGT's causes turbo damage, and high EGT's can be created many ways, not just by overboosting.

Default

i agree with you. the wastegates help manage the turbo pressure and spooling.

Default This percent isn't "peak", it's more like "sustained".

I don't know where this guy is getting his numbers, but I can see many instances where a device gets used at near 100% of its designed range. A perfect example is plain-jane H-rated tires, which claim to have a speed rating of 85 MPH. Will going over 85 MPH cause them to blow up? No, of course not. (Unless they are Firestones... :-P) Will going over 85 MPH decrease their lives? No. Will going over 85 MPH for 1 hour straight effect their lives? Maybe. 5 hours straight? I wouldn't try it!

Post has gotten long... But basically, many things get near 100% of designed level, so long as they aren't likely to be used their for sustained periods.

Default Turbo Failures-not in North America (?)

I guess this must just be a problem in Europe where they drive the cars a lot harder. Same with S4 brakes....no problem here in the states. The next time I see a turbo failure posting, I'll just assume the problem was due to an improperly installed intake.

Any reason to assume Audi would ever "cheap out" on parts.....the company is run by car enthusiasts (I see the ads on TV) and not accountants....right? SD<p>Steve D'Gerolamo
