UPDATE to oil overfill (9+ qts) at 5k service
#22
i've been called 4 times twice by the dealer and twice by AOA
it's real and it's the same way BMW does it.
It sucks and it garauntees that AOA will never never know if their dealers are doing a good job or not. BUT if your Dealer does screw up ROYALLY it does give you a voice.
whatever

IF I were you, I would ask to speak to the OTS, you may have problems in the future w/ the cats.
It says specifically not to overfill oil because of damage to catalytic converters. You said that you could smell oil? Maybe your cats are coated?
Since the dealer has admitted to the mistake, I would just keep this documented well....

Yeah I think I did see your car - I noticed a silver S4 on a lift when I drove into the service bay.
If I would have known what I saw in your sig, I would have taken a closer look to admire that beautiful exhaust!

I think the smell was spilled oil burning off engine/exhaust (m)...
When I took off the plastic shield below the oil pan, the inside of the shield was almost completely covered in oil. The top of the engine under the hood had oil splashed in places. Hey I'm glad they spilled, otherwise that oil would have only added to the 9+ qts in the engine. Anyway that is what I think caused the smell, as it was burning off where it had spilled on hot areas.
As far as the cats, fortunately I only drove 10 miles like this, so hopefully they are OK. I did not notice any oil smoke coming out the tailpipe while driving at least either.
