VAG TBA vs. ignition switch TBA

VAG TBA vs. ignition switch TBA
Thought I'd post this for the archives...
Currently running X-chip and I don't yet have VAG software so I do the manual TBA (ignition switch on for 3 min). I've experienced all sorts of weird boost...overboost to 21 psi, dropping boost to 12 psi, stumbling and peaky acceleration. This kinda made my car not so fun to drive.
At the winter fun run on 12/13 I had the opportunity to get a VAG TBA on my car and what a difference...peak at 18, tapers down to 15, strong and smooth acceleration. Lovin it.
IMO, VAG TBA is far superior and a definite must for aftermarket programming. The manual TBA does work fine for my stock chip.

That is because a VAG TBA also clears out some of the memory of the ecu
which includes the adv timing and the memory of how much timing it has pulled back in the past to adjust for knock. To do the same thing without the vag you need to reset the ecu by unplugging it and then do a ignition TBA.

Manual TBA WAS performed immediately after ECU was unplugged.
The boost symptoms always occur after reset (unplugging) and manual TBA.
VAG program was used after a couple weeks of erratic boost (after manual TBA) in hopes of solving the problem. Problem solved!
I didn't log the req/act boost but no boost related codes were thrown. Only a cat inefficiency code was there. This is understandable since I have no precats (Autospeed DP) and happened to idle my car for 5-10 minutes that day after start-up.

Lots of people know that, all the tuners know that but some people still think otherwise.
Like Audi2ptzero said, the VAG method resets the adaption completely, the ignition key is more a diagnostic -- it will recalibrate if the calibration is way off, but otherwise it doesn't do anything.
