Default Warm-up and turbo timer

I finally purchased a 2001 Imola Yellow S4, and am taking a break from driving to hopefully get some help from you all. What is the normal warm-up time for your vehicles. This car is one of my dream cars, so I am completely babying it, and I think I may be going overboard. Should I be paying attention to the oil temp gauge or the coolant temp. guage. The oil temp guage takes a long time to move at all, and I'm wondering if its under-sensitive. I am driving very easily for about 10 minutes before it budges, even though the coolant guage is at half-way. If anyone can give me any warm-up thoughts, that would be great.

Also, I want to purchase a turbo timer for the car. I had a 300ZX twin turbo, and the timer was perfect to cool the turbos down. What timers have you guys installed on your vehicles, and how about ideas for location. I keep staring at the front cupholder in the dash as a possible location, or the cigarette lighter area. Any other thoughts?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

Ben

Default Oil temp gauge is fine.

It usually takes that long for the oil temperature to start to climb, but you should definitely be paying attention to oil temperatures over coolant temperatures before getting on it. Some will say wait till oil temp starts to move, other say wait until 200+.

Me personally I wait a little while after rpms drop to idle before I start driving, but won't go too heavy on throttle until after oil temperature gauge starts to move...and won't go full throttle to near redline until oil temps are 200+. So far 30k+ miles no problems (knock on wood). For cool down if I run hard before stopping, I will open door and let the chime sound for a minute.

Default Get a boost gage as well - the boost comes on so early in these cars

that you may think you're not into positive pressure, but you are with even the slightest load on the engine. It's actually a little better to let it rev a bit higher than to put a load on the engine when cold. I let it go to 3KRPM when cold, avoiding more than a few PSI of boost. Use a good synthetic (Mobil 1 0W-40). A cool down of 30-60 seconds should be OK for all but the most spirited driving.

10 minutes is about right for the oil to get to 175 or so.
