2005 BMW 330Xi, and I wanted to ask if anyone here has driven it and how it compares to a stock B5 S4 in handling, acceleration, ride comfort and legroom.

...if they offer a sport package, I'd get it. But really, if you don't need AWD, BMW makes really good RWD cars.

I need AWD in Canada, and the one they have left has the sport package, but how much of a difference does the sport package make?

...you definitely notice it. IMO, Audi sport package should be renamed "1/4" lower package", thats all that really changes as far as I can tell. You usually get the bigger sway bars but still not what I would call "sporty".

At any rate, the 3.0 will be a big help in that car over the crap-tastic 2.5 I drove. But I was not impressed at all with the 2.5. And it was a manual transmission so I was having as much fun as I possibly could.

30 more horsepower and variable torque split vs. the fixed system on the e46 model.

Only downside is they are kind of homely and I don't think you can get the sport package on the 'x' model. This means you may be stuck with 16" wheels that look undersized with the new body.
