Waste $100 now, ask me how!
Go ahead and put me down as one of the few (maybe only) lamers that botched his X-Pel application. I read the instructions three times; felt very confident. Took my time and felt comfortable as the installation progressed. However, my "controlled environment" ended up not being controlled enough.
My installation took place at the entrance to our garage from the driveway. While there was no breeze to speak of, somehow tiny brown particles from a tall-standing bush in the front yard floated their way down onto my large X-Pel piece as I was installing it. On a darker colored car, this wouldn't have been too much of an issue. But Imola Yellow? Forget about it! Maybe I'm a tad ****, but things just got too imperfect from there.
I tried to clean them off, but nothin' doin'. Imagine brown colored talcum powder sparsely sprinkled on one side of the large bumper piece. So in a semi-enraged state, I crumpled said large piece into a ball and shot a three-pointer. Remember the dad on A Christmas Story when he went to fix the furnace? That's how I sounded for the next ten minutes.
I'm ready to give a pro a shot. I'd like him/her to not only hit the areas covered by the X-Pel kit, but also provide a little coverage for the front hood area as well. Just have to avoid those pesky rocks, boards, entertainment centers, body parts, etc., that seem to be bouncing around on our freeways in the meantime.
Anyone know of a good installer in the Orange County/Los Angeles, CA area? I'd be looking for someone who can do custom coverage areas from the raw sheets of the 3M material.
