Default What baby car seats fit good in the S4?

My wifey is due in a few months and I need to get one. I thought I would ask you guys for some advice since I'm sure there are a lot of you out there who have had baby seats in your cars.

When our child is big enough I'll definitely bet one of the Recaro baby seats from AMS!

Default I have the Graco Snug Ride - it takes some leg room from the front passenger seat

My wife and I are expecting this Thursday so I have done some reading on the subject recently and this is the seat I decided on.

It is installed in the car and I have used it to drive my neice around a few times I like the setup. The snug ride has the seperate base installed in the car (you can buy additional bases for each car) the seat snaps into the base - it takes two hands to release the seat but the seat snaps into the base real simply (very convenient).

I have it installed behind the pass. seat and the seat is moved forward some compared to normal riding position. I choose the passenger location so that I can still have legroom my wife is short I am not. I have read a few posts about center mounted car seats (safest location) but they all involved moving drivers seat forward and tilted and riding with the armrest down (both annoyances for me - plus the S is not going to be the primary baby car).

If you don't have the book Baby Bargains pick it up it has a wealth of information and testing (similar to Consumer Reports) of most if not all major brands of all baby products. The Snug ride gets an A rating from them. It is easy to set up and use only problem is there is no alcantara finish available (LOL)

I used the seat belt to strap the car seat in, the owner's manual shows some clamp/extenders available (from dealer - maybe achtuning could carry these <wink wink&gt which need to be installed behind the seat. If you move the seat forward you can see the rear seat well is predrilled for some bolt attachments. There are several cautions of leaving those in place in the manual that they could cause damage to the seat surface or leather. I decided to simply use the seatbelt and the clamp that comes with the car seat to hold the belt from releasing. That has worked fine for me for now but I will get more 'seat time' probably in the next few weeks.

Good luck and post your findings or experiences.

ps- keep your head up in the face of this recent adversity with all of this crap flying around about tuner treatment, etc - you have my support and many others on this board. Oh and congrats on the baby!

The Recaro seat is more like a toddler seat. I'm looking for an infant seat.

Thanks for your input! This is exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks for the support as well. Yesterday was a tough day for me but guess what, today is a new day and I'm confident in our ability to regain the trust of our customers on this forum.

Default All of the rear facing seats for infants I've seen or had will make

the front seat somwhere between uncomfortable to useless for an adult, and even when they switch to forward facing at about a year many will take a lot of front seat room if you don't want to be kicked or squish the kid. But it makes a good excuse to keep those messy little varmints out of the car.

Default Congratulations Josh - welcome to my "Stage 3" world !

I am already at Stage 3, and have another at Stage 2+ ;-)

Baby motoring comes in 3 stages:
1. Rear-facing up to ~30lbs (0 ~ 1 yr)
2. Front facing small 20~40lbs (10mn ~2 yrs)
3. Front facing booster 35~ lbs (2~ yrs)

This depends alot on the laws (i.e DMV) in your state. CA requires rear facing seats until 20lbs. They must use a safety seat, and cannot sit up front, until 6yrs or 60lbs.

Fortunately there are K04/16 hybird kit. If you choose well, you can get away with only 2 car seats for the whole process, or if you get the nice one and don't look carefully at the rating/fittings, you can end up buying a new one every 6~9 mnths.

The best advice I can give is to find seats that support a wide range of weights (e.g. get Stage 1 seat that has adjustable buckles, and fit up to 40lbs). When you get to stage 3 look for ones that have adjustable belt positions and dettachable booster base etc.

I went Graco for Stage 1 (see link) - appropriately named for our cars !

P.S. Stage 3 is the one you gotta watch for - this one has realy KICK ! (thanks to lack of leg-room on A4/S4 they're legs are long enough to kick the back of Dad's nice leather driving seats :-(

P.P.S Hope you enjoyed driving that Manual Transmission, now your a daddy I'll give you a year tops before you trade for a Tiptronic :-}

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/baby/B00009ENC6/104-8795029-1663911</a

Default Having a 4 month old...

Any Peg Perego Primo Viaggio infant seat system will fit in the centre seating area. There is absolutely no way it will fit to the right or left if you really intend on having someone safely/comfortable in the front (drive or passenger). With the handle down in the locked position(which is the way infant seats are supposed to be when in the car), it touches the back of the front seats.

The S4 is really not that big so rear facing seats really pushes the limit on space and can make putting the infant in and out a tight activity. It's also a tighter squeeze in the back if someone has to sit with the infant to console her, etc. Trying an emergency feeding in the back seat is tight with the base and seat taking up a lot of room, etc.

Please note that infant seats are only designed to a certain weight and you may have to purchase an intermediate toddler seat before buying the Recaro seat. The Recaro supports 40 pounds and up children and there is a weight gap.
