Default What do VM2s and K03s have in common?

They both suck. So my friend got his VM2 at the end of last week and we put it on. The fitment wasn't too good, as you all know is common with a VM2 (it was bought used for a good price). So after about an hour of adjusting clamps, it finally fit well. After driving the car, it felt as it lost significant amounts of torque - never got on it to see if it picked up anything uptop, and to be fair, it sounds nice anyways :-P So after driving for about 10 minutes, what happens? Yup, you got it, K03 decides it was time to retire also - blue/white smoke, rattling sound, no boost - lovely feeling to say the least - so with that said, at a nice 51000 miles the car is helpless. BTW this was the passenger side turbo, and it was a pre 2001.5 car - now to be fair, I will say that I had noticed a little more oil in the passenger side BPV than I have ever seen in his car earlier last week, but thought nothing of it. But I still think the exhaust might have had *something* to do with it, whether or not it just helped it 'overspin' faster, because thats what made it fail - funny, never had an overspin problem before. Needless to say, he has an opening for waterfest for anyone who wants to park their car in exhibition!

Default My first K03's went kaplooey about a month after I put on a VM2...

...maybe it's that they spin too fast at low RPMs before there is sufficient oil pressure, but who knows.

Default Doubt it was the exhaust, had you been hearing an pitch change in the turbos?

or feeling a loss of power?

Default Not really, though it had been warm so the car was being more of a dog than anything else

so who knows...

Default Although it was coming from a turbo manufacturer, an exhaust can cause turbo failure

someone posted it a little while ago but you may be able to find it with a search.
